Michael Zaurov, PMHNP-BC
As a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), I specialize in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions. Although I am comfortable and proficient with treating all psychiatric disorders, my specialties are trauma, anxiety, depression, and ADHD. I have worked in inpatient, crisis stabilization, and outpatient settings which have given me a unique breadth of experience. I am licensed in Oregon to diagnose, provide therapy and education, and to prescribe medications for mental health conditions.
In my practice, I utilize a combination of psychiatric medication and mindfulness based therapy with an emphasis on integrating emotions, releasing beliefs, and resolving deeply held patterns in the body often formed in early childhood or during traumatic experiences. I draw from various mindfulness based somatic approaches such as Inner Relationship Focusing, Kiloby Inquiries (KI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). For those that need more intensive psychotherapy/counseling, we have a network of therapists in the area and can refer out if necessary.
In my experience, not everyone needs medication, so I only utilize medications when they are necessary and appropriate. For those suffering from severe symptoms that are debilitating and affecting their functioning at school, work, or personal relationships, then the combination of medication and therapy is the best approach. I believe that the patient is ultimately the expert in their own health and well-being, and my goal is to work together to come up with a treatment plan that is both evidence-based and in line with their values and goals.
Education: I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Rutgers University with a Bachelors degree in Psychology. I then graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing with a Masters degree in Psychiatry and Mental Health. I am nationally accredited in Psychiatry across the lifespan by ANCC.
I regularly participate in continuing education courses to advance my training and knowledge in regards to mental health treatment and psychiatry.
